For many years I have relied on my travel insurance to cover me for sailing charters. I recently discovered that cover only extends to 15 miles offshore. So, sailing to Cherbourg from the Needles means there is a 30-mile gap mid-Channel.
I think the odds of needing insurance cover in that distance are small - I am more interested in covering charter costs if something stops me going in the first place - but you may want to check your policy covers all that you think it does.
